Our Pledge.
More Than Clothing.
SPEECH has always been about more than what you put on your back.
When I started the brand, I wanted to create clothing that could communicate something. Clothing with substance, identity and meaning. Something that could say something about the person wearing it before they had even spoken.
That idea is still at the heart of SPEECH today.
But as the brand has grown, I have realised that what we stand for matters just as much as what we make.
I do not want SPEECH to exist simply to sell another T-shirt, hoodie or sweatshirt. There is enough clothing in the world already.
If we are going to put something new into it, I believe it should have a reason for being there.
It should be well made. It should last. It should make someone feel good when they wear it. And, wherever possible, it should leave something positive behind.
That is our pledge.
Why Mental Health Matters to Us.
Life can be noisy.
There is pressure to succeed. Pressure to look a certain way. Pressure to know who you are, where you are going and what you are supposed to become.
Young people are growing up surrounded by more opinions, comparisons, expectations and distractions than ever before.
Sometimes the most powerful thing somebody can hear is simply:
You are not alone.
That message has found its way into SPEECH many times because I believe it.
Behind every order number, Instagram account or person walking past us in the street is a human being carrying things the rest of us may know nothing about.
That is something worth remembering.
It is also why supporting young people's mental health became part of what SPEECH stands for.
Why YoungMinds?
SPEECH donates 5% of our profits to YoungMinds UK.
YoungMinds works to make sure young people can get the mental health support they need, when they need it.
They help young people feel heard. They provide support for parents and families. They campaign for better mental health services and fight for a future where no young person feels they have to struggle alone.
For me, supporting that work makes sense.
SPEECH is built around expression, identity and having the confidence to be yourself.
Mental health sits right alongside those things.
Because finding your voice means very little if you feel nobody is listening.
Why 5% of Profits?
I wanted our support to be built into the business rather than treated as an occasional campaign.
So when SPEECH succeeds, something good should grow alongside it.
That is why 5% of our profits are donated to YoungMinds.
It means every customer who supports SPEECH becomes part of something bigger than the transaction.
You are helping an independent British brand grow.
You are supporting original design.
You are helping us continue creating heavyweight clothing designed with purpose.
And through that growth, you are helping us contribute towards work supporting young people's mental health.
We know SPEECH alone will not change the world.
But that does not mean we should do nothing.
Small actions matter.
Businesses have choices about what they stand for, where their money goes and what kind of impact they want to leave behind.
This is one of ours.
The Clothing Has a Responsibility Too.
Purpose does not excuse poor product.
If anything, it gives us an even greater responsibility to make clothing worth owning.
We believe in creating pieces that earn their place in your wardrobe.
Heavyweight fabrics. Considered oversized silhouettes. Original design. Clothing designed to be worn repeatedly rather than forgotten after a season.
Our idea of an everyday uniform is simple.
Fewer decisions. Better pieces. Stronger identity.
We want SPEECH clothing to become the things you instinctively reach for.
The hoodie that feels right every time you put it on.
The T-shirt that still holds its shape.
The piece somebody asks you about because the message means something.
Clothing should not need to shout to have something to say.
This Is Personal.
SPEECH is an independent brand.
There is a real person behind it.
There is a family behind it.
There are late nights, sketches, ideas that work, ideas that do not, risks, mistakes, small wins and moments where you wonder whether anybody is paying attention.
I still care about the details because I still care about what SPEECH becomes.
I want my children to look at what we built and see something that had principles.
Not perfection.
Principles.
A brand that tried to make good clothing.
A brand that treated people properly.
A brand that stood behind its messages.
A brand that remembered there are more important things in life than selling clothes.
And a brand that used whatever success it achieved to give something back.
Our Promise.
As SPEECH grows, the scale may change.
More customers.
More countries.
More collections.
More people wearing the brand.
But the principle should remain the same.
Create with intention.
Make clothing with substance.
Never lose the meaning behind the message.
And make sure the success of SPEECH creates something positive beyond SPEECH.
When you wear our clothing, we want you to feel good in it.
But we also want you to know what you are helping us build.
Thank you for being part of it.
